Sometimes the layout of a space necessitates creative solutions. In this particular case the kitchen window was shaded by trees and the owner wanted to get more light into her kitchen. There was no other place to put a window without sacrificing storage or appliance space, or so it would seem.
The solution here was to put a transom window above a set of storage cabinets to let light in from the brighter side of the house. This was done while maintaining the cooking area underneath. This is not a typical design solution but an example of thinking outside the box to solve a design issue.
The kitchen features cherry semi-custom cabinets and solid granite countertops.
